Arsenal's manager feels assured that his team can keep managing with injury setbacks after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

Havertz has been out since the summer due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return at the start of this month, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when stepping up his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is much more reliable and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This development leaves a dilemma for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Linger

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to start again in the backline for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the significant outlay on squad depth during the summer has resulted in a far better place to deal with such unavailability.

Greater Options Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if more options was benefiting their championship push, the manager agreed. “Indeed, because this season has been worse in some areas, and now the problems with the defence,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we must deploy players in various roles, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we want to compete at the top. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Star

Addressing the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He was unable to progress to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his eagerness to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, in my view, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”

“His fitness history is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I look forward to see him return involved on the pitch because I think it’s going to be a massive boost.”
